Glad to meet you :) I'm the Etsy shopkeeper at CHERRY CRUSH RETRO - and this is my first post!

Today I'm sharing about a very fun 50s Vintage Baby Shower that came to life partly by incorporating wonderful items from other Etsy sellers...complete with party food ideas, decorations and retro recipes.
You know, it's the truth - girls never seem to tire of dressing up - it's just plain fun!
And that includes the little ones, young women and well, the retro ones...oops, that's me! So when a dear friend's daughter, who still calls me "Aunt Carol" wanted a "Vintage" baby shower, I jumped right in - and here's how a friend and I created a very memorable occasion for Paige!
Blasting back to the 50s, our invitation had to travel by snail mail, of course - and I found the perfect graphic to create the invite from Etsy's Posh Totty Designz - https://www.etsy.com/shop/poshtottydesignz?ref=pr_shop_more
The invitation text read...our "Mom-to-Be" Loves Vintage. Please join us for a 50's Luncheon & Baby Shower. Luncheon to be served at 11:00 A.M. - Like at Momma's Card Parties! Be sure to wear your hat - or borrow one from Aunt Izzy's trunk.
and friends, nieces, aunts, grandmas and our Mom-to-be happily arrive almost at the same time...many donning hats already. For those who came hatless, the choices from Aunt Izzy's trunk were abundant and guests could choose any hat listed at http://www.etsy.com/shop/Cherrycrushretro?ref=pr_shop_more

Remembering back to the parties that my own mom gave in the 50s, decorating was easy and fun.
Shower guests would sit at cloth covered card tables, eat off of vintage glass plate sets called "servettes" and "light up" candy ciggies!
All, non-smokers, everyone seemed to have a lot of fun re-creating the glamour of the era!

Can't throw a vintage shower without a couple of vintage games, so before the food was served, guests sat down at a place setting bedecked with a Pamper. Each table worked as team diapering and un-diapering a baby doll in a relay race.
Two nieces ages, Caitlin, 9 and Ava,12 sat at the winning table and, believe it or not, seemed to be charmed with the prizes - beautiful vintage hankies.
One more game to be played during lunch was a Baby Bingo Card with empty squares on which they were to write the present / items that they thought Mom-to-Be would open later on.

Well, just before lunch, we surprised Mom-To-Be, Paige - who loves to cook - with a FAB hot pink, white polka dotted retro, pin-up style apron with a full flirty skirt - purchased from Sandi at ArtsyCraftsyBoutique on Etsy at https://www.etsy.com/shop/ArtsyCraftsyBoutique?ref=seller_info
Eating food that we remembered from our Mom's or Grandma's table turned out to be a fun and delicious trip down memory lane.
We served retro raspberry sherbet punch, two kinds of finger sandwiches - ham salad and cream cheese with olive - and, of course, we had to have timeless deviled eggs.
Homemade Chex mix and potato chips with Lipton's Onion Dip provided the nibblies - and the crowning touch was a 50's "had to have" retro jello salad which combined lime jello, cottage cheese, crushed pineapple, condensed milk and mayonnaise - a huge hit. Find this yummy easy to prepare recipe at http://www.cooks.com/rec/view/0,1843,148175-224204,00.html
We used retro planters like this one as table decorations - find this one in my other shop at https://www.etsy.com/listing/158782806/vintage-baby-planter-cute-pink-booties
And, now the most important introduction!
